Spas 'all about recharging batteries'

- Posted at Fri 12 February 2010 12:10 PM

Spa and pamper breaks are proving popular even throughout the recession as they help people to recharge their batteries, according to an expert.

Lynne McNees, president of the International Spa Association, told the Times Free Press that taking time to have a massage lets people renew and take care of themselves.

"We are trying to position ourselves to our clients as something they can't do without. It's really about how you treat people when they walk through the door," added Stephanie Hughes, owner of In the Buff Day Spa.

Some people are also making sacrifices in their daily routines to create room for their pamper break, according to regular spa-goer Shelia Ullenberg.

She told the source that she does not see massage therapy as a luxury but more of a necessity which helps her to feel refreshed.

Massage can also have a positive effect on the nervous system, stimulating the release of endorphins which give people a 'feel-good' sensation.
