London theatre comes to the high street

A new project is set to get underway which will see theatre productions taken out into the community, fans of the best in theatre breaks have been told.

The Royal Court is set to present a number of productions in a disused shop in the Elephant and Castle shopping centre in London, thanks to a £100,000 sponsorship deal with Bloomberg.

It is also intended that the project will be extended to other communities in London in forthcoming years.

The new project, titled Theatre Local, will open on March 3rd with Debbie Tucker Green's play Random, which took centre stage at the Royal Court in 2008.

This will be followed by three plays from the Royal Court's current season, including Jerwood Theatre Upstairs: Disconnect, The Empire and Spur of the Moment.

Fans of the best in theatre breaks can currently see the Royal Court's production of Jerusalem, which is running until April 24th at the Apollo Theatre.
